Quick answer

The Green Growth PPP antenna gives your harvester up to 3 cm positioning accuracy using correction data broadcast by satellites, so you don’t need an RTK base station or network subscription. It is a one-off add-on with no annual fee. You need it for field trials and for narrow-header root crop harvesters. For a normal yield map, the standard GPS in every kit is enough.

Do you need PPP?

Most farms don’t. A yield map averages readings into pixels, so small GPS errors disappear in the grid. PPP pays off when every pass has to land in exactly the right place.

Field trials

Trial strips and plots are only a few metres wide. To compare varieties, seed rates or fertiliser treatments you need straight tracks that stay inside each plot and line up with the same plots next season. PPP keeps every pass in its strip, so results aren’t diluted by passes that drift into the neighbouring treatment.

Root crops with a narrow header

A one- or two-row potato, onion or carrot harvester covers only a metre or two per pass. A standard receiver can drift by a similar distance and put a pass on the neighbouring bed. With PPP each pass lands on the row it actually lifted, so row-level yield differences stay visible.

Normal yield maps: not needed

On a combine with a wide header, the standard GPS included with every kit is enough. Readings are binned into map pixels several metres across, so small position errors don’t change the picture.

How PPP works

PPP (Precise Point Positioning) corrects the errors in satellite orbits and clocks that limit a normal GPS receiver. The correction data is broadcast from satellites, so a single antenna on your harvester calculates its own precise position. Nothing has to be installed on the farm.

RTK, the other common route to centimetre accuracy, needs a correction signal from a nearby base station: either your own, set up and maintained on the farm, or a paid RTK network. PPP removes that dependency.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a PPP antenna for a normal yield map?

No. Every Green Growth kit ships with a standard GPS receiver, and that is enough for a normal yield map. Yield is averaged into map pixels, so small position errors disappear in the grid. Add PPP when exact position matters: field trials with straight, repeatable tracks, and root crop harvesters with a narrow header.

How accurate is the Green Growth PPP antenna?

Up to 3 cm. That is the best-case accuracy, reached from satellite corrections alone, without an RTK base station.

Is there an annual fee for PPP corrections?

No. The PPP antenna is a one-off add-on price with no correction subscription. Your kit’s standard annual cloud fee for telemetry, data storage and web dashboards stays the same.

Do I need an RTK base station or network subscription?

No. PPP computes a precise position from a single antenna using correction data broadcast by satellites. There is no base station to set up, no radio link and no RTK network subscription.

Why does a narrow header need precise GPS?

On a one- or two-row potato, onion or carrot harvester the header covers only a metre or two. A standard GPS receiver can drift by a similar distance, which can place a pass on the neighbouring bed. With PPP each pass lands on the row it actually harvested, so row-level yield differences stay visible.

Why do field trials need precise GPS?

Trial plots and strips are often only a few metres wide. To compare treatments you need straight tracks that sit exactly inside each plot, and that line up with the same plots next season. PPP keeps every pass in its plot so trial results are not diluted by passes that drift into the neighbouring strip.
